These regional courses are designed as a follow-up to the III STEP Conference: Linking Movement Science and Intervention, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, in summer 2005. The goal of this course is to disseminate and translate the therapy and evidence presented at III STEP. Presentations will include theory and updated concepts from the areas of neuroplasticity, rehabilitation models, motor learning, and measurement. The course format will include lecture, case presentations, and small group problem solving. Outcomes and measures pertinent to the above will be included. Attendees will be encouraged to participate and share ideas to integrate theory into practice and education.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the main theoretical concepts presented at III STEP and how these concepts indicate advances or changes in thinking from prior models of rehabilitation/development/disability.
- Apply concepts to clinical problem solving regarding various patient types, both pediatric and adult.
- Discuss both pediatric and adult patient issues, outcome measures, and treatment approaches to brainstorm various possibilities for changes in our usual approach to neurological problems.
- Understand how translating changes in theory to clinical practice affects education of therapists, both in the classroom and in the clinic.
