Call for
Technology Session Participants (Printer
Friendly Version)
Applications must be received no later
than February 1, 2005
New technologies have had
a profound impact on recent developments in movement science
and physical therapy. From multimedia educational applications
to motion analysis, technology and physical therapy have
become inexorably linked. Strategies for guiding meaningful
technological development, however, have not been well developed.
To address this concern, the III STEP planning committee
invites company representatives to participate in a special
panel discussion focusing on how manufacturers and physical
therapy researchers, educators, and clinicians can work
together to influence the future development of rehabilitation
technology.
General Format:
- Two, 1 hour, “public forum” style, moderated
discussions, each between a panel of invited technology
manufacturer representatives and III STEP conference participants.
- One panel will focus on multimedia education and clinical
documentation software, while the second panel will focus
on technology applications in movement science and physical
therapy clinical practice.
- Each panel discussion constitutes a separate event and
will be held on a different evening.
- After a brief session introduction by a moderator , each
panelist will be given 5 minutes to respond to the following
general discussion questions
- In what direction is or would you like to see your
specific technology field developing?
- How can physical therapy researchers, educators,
and clinicians work with you to enhance the application
or impact of your technology on the rehabilitation of
individuals with movement problems?
- Up to 6 panelists may be included in each discussion.
- After initial comments from the panel, conference participants
will be invited to ask questions (of specific panel members
or of the panel at large). The forthcoming general discussion
will be moderated to insure that the content remains focused
on the session topic.
- At the end of the panel discussion hour, all participants
are invited to continue individual conversations with panel
members as desired. The session will close after two hours.
To be considered for participation, a prospective
applicant must.
1. Provide the name, title, credentials,
and contact information (including email address) of the
company representative who will serve as panelist
2. Submit a brief, one-page synopsis of the panelist’s
response to the two general discussion questions listed
above
3. Pay a participation fee of $500 (due upon confirmation
of acceptance to participate). Payment should be made to
Neurology Section, APTA.
Notes:
- Applications will be reviewed and selected by members
of the III STEP Planning Committee on a first come, first
served basis. Applications will be considered until all
available panel slots are filled.
- All applicants will be notified in via email of the
committee’s decision.
- As part of this application, companies are invited
to make specific suggestions for format of session
- Light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available
during the session.
- To help keep the cost of the session at a minimum,
company representatives are strongly encouraged to stay
overnight in the Marriott Hotel in Salt Lake City, UT
(location of the Technology Session).
- Participating companies are invited to contribute 1
item for a Prize Drawing at the end of the session. Suggested
items include equipment purchase discounts, products,
etc.

on 8 ½ x 11” white paper, in Times Roman
